1472–1554 Berber dynasty ruling Morocco
The Wattasid dynasty was a ruling dynasty of Morocco. Like the Marinid dynasty, its rulers were of Zenata Berber descent. The two families were related, and the Marinids recruited many viziers from the Wattasids. These viziers gradually assumed many of the powers of the sultans. In 1458 or 1459, Abd al-Haqq II reasserted direct Marinid authority and suppressed the Wattasid family, reportedly killing many of its members. In 1465, Abd al-Haqq was killed during a revolt in Fez, after which the Wattasids eventually established control over the former Marinid realm.
